Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Eczema is a skin condition characterized by red, inflamed, and itchy patches of skin. It can occur anywhere on the body but is most common on the hands, feet, face, and behind the knees or elbows. Eczema tends to flare up periodically, especially in response to triggers like:

+
  1. Allergens (dust mites, pet dander, pollen)
  2. Harsh soaps and detergents
  3. Stress
  4. Weather changes
  5. Dry skin

Symptoms of Eczema:

  1. Itchy, dry, and scaly skin
  2. Redness and inflammation
  3. Blisters or oozing sores (in severe cases)

Treatment for Eczema:

  1. Moisturizers and emollients to maintain skin hydration
  2. Topical corticosteroids for inflammation
  3. Antihistamines to control itching
  4. Avoidance of triggers and allergens
  5. Medications like immunosuppressants in severe cases

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that speeds up the lifecycle of skin cells, causing them to accumulate rapidly on the surface. This results in thick, scaly patches known as plaques. Common triggers include stress, infections, and cold weather.

Types of Psoriasis:

  1. Plaque Psoriasis: The most common type, featuring raised, red patches covered in silvery scales.
  2. Guttate Psoriasis: Small, dot-like lesions that often appear after a sore throat.
  3. Inverse Psoriasis: Smooth, red patches that develop in skin folds like armpits and groin.

Symptoms of Psoriasis:

  1. Thickened, red patches covered in white or silver scales
  2. Dry, cracked skin that may bleed
  3. Itching, burning, or soreness around the patches

Treatment for Psoriasis:

  1. Topical treatments such as corticosteroids, Vitamin D analogs, and retinoids
  2. Phototherapy (light therapy)
  3. Systemic treatments (oral or injectable medications) for severe cases
  4. Lifestyle modifications to manage triggers
